Who to Call

What to Say

Here are some talking points you should go over:
  • Counterterrorism experts agree that this ban makes us less safe. By pitting the United States against majority-Muslim countries, Trump is giving a gift to terrorist recruiters everywhere.
  • The immigrants and refugees who have been detained have already passed extensive vetting — it takes more than two years to complete the requirements to come to the United States. We welcome people like the five-year-old kept away from his mother at Dulles Airport, the doctor detained on his way to work at the Cleveland Clinic, and the Iraqi translators who have already served our country with open arms.
  • Banning immigrants because they come from a specific majority-Muslim country is immoral, illegal, and straight-up unconstitutional. America does not discriminate based on religion or national origin — our laws, including our founding documents, make that perfectly clear.

Some Tips

Introduce yourself

Introduce yourself, ask for the name of the person who handles foreign relations, and share where you're from so your member of Congress’ staff know that you're a constituent. (“Hi, this is Joe calling from Wilmington, Delaware. Can I speak to the person in your office who handles foreign relations?)

Say why you’re calling & what you want to happen

State the reason you are calling and the specific action you want your member of Congress to take — you oppose Donald Trump’s Muslim ban and ask your representative to support H.R.724 and S.240.

Share how the call went on Facebook and Twitter and encourage your friends to reach out to their member of Congress.
